City Church Cardiff takes centre stage on BBC One this Sunday

Over 600 worshippers from many nations unite for special 'International Sunday' broadcast celebrating faith, diversity and community

City Church Cardiff is set to shine on national television this Sunday when BBC One airs their vibrant International Sunday service as part of the broadcaster's Prayer & Reflection series.

The special broadcast, airing on BBC One at 11.30am on 26 October, captures the energy and diversity of one of Wales' most dynamic Pentecostal congregations. More than 600 people gathered for the filming, many dressed in traditional outfits representing their home countries, creating a colourful celebration of unity in faith.

With members from over 50 different nations, City Church reflects Cardiff's multicultural identity and demonstrates how faith transcends cultural boundaries. The service showcases everything that makes this congregation unique – from energetic worship led by their choir and band to prayers offered in multiple languages, and congregation members dancing and moving throughout the service.

Senior Pastor Stephen Gibson, alongside his wife Rachel and a team from the church, leads viewers through the City Church's distinctive approach to worship. The programme includes a thoughtful communion service and features interviews with church members of different ages, who share what their Christian Pentecostal faith means to them and why City Church has become their spiritual home.

Beyond Sunday services, City Church has built a reputation for putting faith into action across Cardiff. The church runs weekly food banks, supports refugees, and partners with organisations like Safe Families to provide practical help to families facing difficulties. This commitment to serving the community is woven into the church's DNA.

As part of Elim Pentecostal Church, City Church Cardiff represents a growing movement of churches committed to both spiritual vitality and social impact. The congregation of more than 1,000 proves that church can be a place where diverse cultures unite around shared values and purpose.

The Prayer & Reflection series brings worship from six major faiths to BBC audiences, with City Church being one of 14 congregations featured from across the UK.

Watch City Church Cardiff's International Sunday service on BBC One at 11.30am on Sunday 26 October 2025, or catch up afterwards on BBC iPlayer.
